Why It Matters

Not all honey
is created equal.

Most honey on store shelves has been heated, ultra-filtered, and blended until the pollen — and the proof of origin — is gone. We do none of that.

Never heated above 95°F

Commercial honey is pasteurized at 160°F, destroying enzymes and nutrients. Ours never sees a flame.

Single-origin hives

Every jar is traceable to a specific meadow or forest edge in Vermont. No blending, no mystery.

Zero additives, ever

No corn syrup. No "natural flavors." No preservatives. Just honey, exactly as it left the comb.

Our Story

Started with
two hives
and a meadow.

In 2011, Margaret and Tom Ellison set up two Langstroth hives in the corner of their Vermont property. They weren't trying to build a business — they were trying to understand bees.

Fourteen years later, Golden Hive Co. tends 8 apiary sites across the Northeast Kingdom, still using the same principles: slow harvesting, zero heat, and deep respect for the bees who do the actual work.

Every jar you open is a direct line back to a specific meadow, a specific season, a specific hive. We think that matters.

"We don't make honey. We just try not to ruin it."

Real Reviews

They tried it.
They came back.

"I've tried a lot of artisan honeys and this is genuinely the best. The lavender doesn't overwhelm — it's just there, gently. I've ordered three times now."

Creamed Lavender Honey

"Bought this as a gift for my mom and ended up keeping half for myself. The wildflower has this depth you just don't get from store-bought. Nothing like it."

Raw Wildflower Honey

"Put the chili honey on a cheese board at a dinner party and everyone asked where it was from. Ordered four more jars the next morning."
